How did Tyrell
Godwin get the nickname of thanks be? I coached him in high school and
this is a new one for me.

We here at
Baseball Evolution are Doctor Who fans... that's a British
science-fiction show, the longest running of all time. Anyway, in one
episode the inhabitants of a planet worshiped a god called Ty.
They would chant "thanks be to Ty" much as other religions chant
"thanks be to God." In Tyrell's case, it works as a play on
both his first and last name.
You must
have been very proud to coach him; he's one of my personal favorites. I
think that his arm is being wasted in left field. He should be the
starting center fielder and leadoff hitter for the Nats
right now.

agree. Tyrell was a joy to coach in high school, very cerebral. I coached him
in football and track, made me look like a genius at times. I was just
